The role of the association is to provide support through networks and advice, educate through research and development and lobby for the interests of their members in government and EU policy .

The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) is the organization that represents the interests of over 900 electric cooperatives in the United States, to various legislatures. Independent electric utilities are not-for-profit and are owned by their members. The Association, which was founded in 1942, unites the country's generation, transmission and distribution cooperatives which are found in 47 states and serve over 40 million people.

The National Confederation of Cooperatives (NATCCO) was formed by credit union pioneers who believed that the task of co-op development lies primarily in the hands of the private sector. These leaders believed in self-help and in the idea that people in poverty need to create opportunities for themselves to improve their economic well-being. As early as the 1950’s to 70’s, co-op sector leaders were aware that in order to succeed they could not rely on government alone.

Throughout its nearly 100 year history it has consistently advanced and protected the cooperative enterprise model, highlighting the impact that cooperatives have in the economic success of communities around the world. NCBA CLUSA engages in cooperative and community development in 15 countries including the United States.

The European Association of Co-operative Banks (EACB) represents, promotes and defends the common interests of its 28 member institutions and of cooperative banks, with regard to banking as well as to co-operative legislation. Founded in 1970, today the EACB is a leading professional lobbying association in the European banking industry. With 4,000 locally operating banks and 72,000 outlets, they serve more than 217 million customers, mainly consumers, SMEs and communities.

Co-operatives UK is the national trade body that campaigns for co-operation and works to promote, develop and unite co-operative enterprises. We have a unique role as a trade association for co-operatives. We aim to bring together all those with a passion and interest in co-operative action.
We work to promote the co-operative alternative across many sectors of the economy from high street consumer-owned co-operatives to pubs and football clubs, healthcare to agriculture, credit unions to community owned shops.
